The UK government has announced a rebate of £400 energy bill discount for household users. The announcement was made on 21st September 2022. The discount includes dividing six installments from October 2022 to March 2023.

Scammers took advantage of the announcement from the government; some frauds are texting fake emails and text messages to the consumers from the Ofgem website with a link. The text message asks to provide the details of the consumers to get eligible for a discount.

The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau received more than 1500 reports from consumers on the Energy Support Rebate Scam.
