What is typical for Italy?

Italy is a country in southern Europe. You may remember it from geography class as the “boot” of Europe, due to the shape of the Apennine Peninsula where it’s located. Italy is a country that boasts a rich culture and history, as well as excellent cuisine and beautiful mountains.

Italy consists of 20 regions, but theoretically, it can be divided into two parts. The wealthier north, where almost all industries are located, and the poorer south, which is primarily composed of agricultural areas. An interesting fact is that in Italy, there is a political party called the “Northern League,” which strives for the separation of the north of Italy from the south. The party has been advocating for division since 1991, but so far it has not gained enough support from the population for it to actually happen.

Why travel to Italy?

In Italy, everyone finds something to enjoy. In winter, skiing, and in summer, hiking and relaxing on the beach. In addition to beautiful nature, Italy also boasts the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites (a total of 43).

Thanks to all the nice places to visit in Italy, this country is visited by approximately 60–70 million tourists every year. Tourism thus accounts for approximately 12 % of GDP.
